A new vision for European media

Aiming to break down the barriers created by national media, cafebabel.com is the first online magazine of its type. Published in seven languages – English, French, German, Italian, Spanish,Catalan and Polish – the site presents its readers with an insight into European current affairs from a trans-national perspective.

At a time when the European Union is expanding and playing an ever more important role in our everyday lives, the evolution of a European identity is still in its beginning stages. As a forum for reflection and analysis, cafebabel.com encourages its readers to think as Europeans, bringing European politics back to the people.

As a participatory media, cafebabel.com relies on its extensive network of voluntary writers and translators to contribute to the pan-European debate. Every contributor has the right to submit an article in his/her original language and be read in each of the languages of cafebabel.com. As an open media, we encourage and respect diversity of opinion. All we ask is that articles are written from a European perspective. They also have to comply with journalistic standards. For more information, please read our Editorial charter.

On-the-ground activities

more than an online media, cafebabel.com has an important physical presence via the local teams across Europe. Through organising and participating in debates, conferences and other events, cafebabel.com provides a platform of expression for civil society.

Whether a debate takes place in Madrid or Warsaw, the style remains the same: a critical analysis of European issues from a European perspective. In a relaxed atmosphere, the eurogeneration comes face to face with the decision makers. Remarkable for their interactivity, cafebabel.com events provide a forum where all can express their ideas.

Local teams also meet regularly to discuss cafebabel.com’s editorial content, stimulate writers, and propose topics. As a magazine founded on the principles of participatory journalism, the input of our network is crucial.
